The
Wedding Invitation
Weddings...something borrowed, something
new, something old, something blue. Every aspect of the wedding
is built on tradition, handed down throughout the times. From
the 18th Century usage of double envelopes and the mandatory British
spelling "honour" to strict ecru and ivory coloured
wedding invitations. Today's modern couple are no longer bound
to tradition...
Rules were meant to be broken. Same goes for wedding invitations.
You can break out of that ivory & ecru catalog (I still can't
tell the difference between the two) and get creative. Have some
fun with your wedding invitations - give it a personality all
its own! We're
here to help.
Be
different ! Make up your own wedding invitation wording, ditch
the double envelopes... why not line them instead! And still,
for those who'd rather keep with the tradition, the next informative
article on addressing wedding invitations is a must-read.
|
What
was old is new again
Many couples still use this traditional
addressing system. The traditional way to address your wedding
invitation:
- Words
are to be completely spelled out:
this includes navigational directions- (North, South), street
names, street suffixes (Avenue for Ave, Street for St., etc.)
and state names.
For long numbered street names (i.e., 168th St.), its best not
to spell it out. It'll less likely confuse the postman and make
for a cleaner looking envelope.
-
Professional
names and titles are spelled out completely:
Dr. & Mrs. Jones
should be spelled out
Doctor & Mrs. Jones
- Inviting
unmarried couples - the person whom is closest associated with
the bride or groom should be listed first.
-
If
using double envelopes, list only the members of family whom
you are inviting on the inner envelope. This should end the
debate of whether or not to bring the kids.
